The Only Way

Remember when we were growing up and every child that participated got the same trophy or medal? No? Me either because that wasn’t the way it was when I first started competing in athletics, chess matches, and even oratorical contests. Although everyone was acknowledged for competing, only the winners received an accolade. Today’s kids grow up with participation medals as the norm which creates an unrealistic perception of reality. Think about it, everyone that just shows up to work won’t get a promotion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for encouraging kids, but it’s a thin line between encouraging them and setting them up to fail with an unrealistic perception of life.
